TAYE DIGGS

Scott "Taye" Diggs was born on January 2nd, 1972, in New Jersey. The eldest of five siblings, Diggs was raised by his mother in Rochester, New York, after the death of his father. As a result, Diggs had to pitch in at an early age, and helped raise his brothers and sisters. "I changed all their diapers and taught them how to play soccer," he says.

Since his youth, Diggs was affectionately called "Scottaye" by his friends, which was eventually shortened to "Taye"; the nickname stuck. After attending high school at Rochester's School of the Arts, Diggs enrolled in Syracuse University, majoring in musical theater. During his time there, he honed his skills singing in a band called Zoo Trip. He received his BFA in 1993, then spent a year playing bit parts on Broadway, including an appearance in the Tony Award-winning revival of Carousel.
Diggs received a BFA degree in musical theater from Syracuse University. He made his show business debut in the ensemble cast of the five-time Tony Award winning play "Carousel." His two brothers are musicians, one sister is a dancer and the other is going to college to be a veterinarian.
