KARACHI - Karachi police, known for corruption and incompetence in solving criminal cases, became a laughing stock when it produced before a judicial magistrate one and a half year old infant as an accused in a murder case. The astonishing and amazing feat of Karachi police of nominating the infant Raees alias Mamoon in the murder of 20-year-old Alamgir not only angered and shocked the magistrate, Javed Akhtar Mali, but everyone present in the court. When the judge asked the police officer how on earth they arrested an infant, he was informed that an FIR was lodged at Zaman Town Police Station by one Shehla Ahsanullah against Raees for allegedly murdering her son Alamgir by slitting his throat. To everyone’s surprise and magistrate’s annoyance the police officer was speechless although the complainant said that she never nominated the infant and in fact she nominated three people identified as Dilawar, Pervez and Raja who were absconding. Later, the police official apologised to the magistrate and asked for the name of infant Raees, who was present in the court, to be struck off from the FIR. The magistrate ordered the police to arrest the three accused and produce them before the court otherwise action would be taken against those officials involved in the case.
