(Born May 12th 1978 in Stockholm, Sweden) to a model mother and an insurance broker father. Her family moved to Toronto, Canada when she was two years old. After her parents' divorce, her father returned to Sweden, and Akerman stayed in Canada with her mother. She lived in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario for a short while, attending Parliament Oak Primary School, and then Niagara District Secondary School until Grade 11, and then graduating at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School. She also attended Dante Alighieri Academy in Toronto for her OAC year before moving on to attend York University for a year. |
Akerman starred in the 2007 Farrelly Brothers movie The Heartbreak Kid and in the 2008 film 27 Dresses. She played Silk Spectre II in the 2009 film adaptation of Watchmen. By mid-October, 2008, Akerman has signed on to co-star in Couples Retreat, a comedy chronicling four couples who partake in therapy sessions at a tropical island resort. Vince Vaughn will play her husband.
Akerman sings for the band the Petalstones (formerly known as Ozono).
The first tattoo she had done was five years ago, on the nape of her neck. A lotus flower and Tibetan Sanskrit that means "to play." She grew up Buddhist, her mother was Buddhist, and the lotus flower is a huge representation of Buddhism because it grows without roots. It represents me making my own life with no roots. The Tibetan Sanskrit "to play" is sort of like, "to play the game of life." And that's sort of what my life is, a big game.
The other one is on the inside of my wrist, and it's the initial of my husband's last name: It's a Z for Zincone.
